Here are a few of the improvements & changes in Wildfire 2 compared to Wildfire 1:
4 cases where we all say "AT LAST PTC!"
Undo/Redo | If you modify or delete by mistake - just hit UNDO & Pro/E will take you back.
This is one improvement that raised a cheer at PTC/USER 2004 when it was mentioned... |
Axis Patterns ![]() | Pick a feature, pick an axis, add a number or angle - you're done.
No more datums-on-the-fly. Also: direction patterns are simpler. |
Quick Grouping ![]() | Select features in the model tree, Right-click » Group. Simple. |
| Copy/Paste | Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+V to paste - plus paste special options... |
WARNING - Once you've saved a Pro/E file with Wildfire 2, you can't open it with Wildfire 1... so get agreement amongst your co-workers before saving files with WF2.
Centreline for Revolve
You can now use external centrelines, ie: you don't need to sketch a centreline in the 2D sketch, just pick an axis in the part.
Drawing Views - Dialog box
Dealing with views in Drawing mode is simpler via the dialog box:
- Choose orientation, eg: FRONT, TOP, etc...
- Set scale, section details
- Change hidden-lines / tangent-lines, etc...
- Set origin / alignment
Show/Erase - Pause
In Drawing mode, during show/erase dims you can now Right-click » Pause - and move the dims around, cleanup, etc... then Right-click » Resume to carry on.
NOTE: You may find it easier to use the Model tree to Show Dimensions...
New shortcuts...
Try Control+G for regenerate in Part mode... or Control+Middle-click » Zoom window or hold Shift while dragging the small square reference boxes to snap to surfaces, etc...
Common Name
This is an optional attribute now available on the "New Part" dialog. It may be useful in PDM systems to help identify parts.
Regen is more intelligent
Now Pro/E just regenerates features that have changed, rather than everything. It's a bit quicker, plus you see the progress bar...
Feature » Sketch (from dashboard)
This is different from WF1 - instead of a sketch icon, you now go via Placement » (Sketch) Define...
TIP - When you start a feature, Right-click » Edit Internal Sketch - saves you a few clicks
Quick Mirror
Just pick a feature, click the mirror icon & pick a plane (pick part name to mirror total part)
Mechanism made easier
Now there's a button to convert assembly constraints to connections, plus you can easily drag packaged parts with the hand icon.
Cross-sections
Cross-sections are now part of the view manager - use icon or [View » View Manager].
Creating new sections follows the same steps as Wildfire 1. Double-click to activate them.
To show only hatching, Right-Click » Set Visibility. These are displayed after closing View Mgr.
